Australian Orthopaedic Innovations Pty Ltd (AOI) is a South Australian company developing and commercialising orthopaedic research. Two innovative products are currently in development for the international market: an Adaptive Orthopaedic Handpiece for optimal long-term fixation of prosthetic devices; and a Bone Chemical Supplementation for prevention of infection in bone grafts.

In 2000, Palmerston's role was initially as founder of the company which involved helping the company secure its initial licenses for the intellectual property, raising funds from private investors, securing a $375,000 BITS grant and managing all day to day affairs. These activities stretched over two years and Palmerston's current on-going involvement is through Peter Maddern acting as a director of the company.
